wherewasi

Turn a pile of photos into a map of where you have been.

A private photo-trip mapper that runs in your browser. wherewasi turns a folder of holiday photos into a named, dated timeline of the places you stopped, without uploading a single image.

What it does

Turn a pile of photos into a map of where you have been.

Drop in your photos and wherewasi reads their GPS and timestamps entirely in the browser, groups them into the places you actually stopped, names each one, and lays the trip out as a timeline beside a map. Nothing is uploaded; only a bare coordinate goes out to name a place.

Your photos never leave the browser

GPS coordinates and timestamps are read from each file on your own machine. No upload, no account, no copy of your library sitting on someone else’s disk.

Finds the places you actually stopped

Rather than pinning every frame, wherewasi groups photos by where and when they were taken, so a trip reads as the handful of places you spent time in.

Every stop gets a name

Only a bare coordinate leaves your machine to look up a place name. The photo itself, and everything else in it, stays put.

A timeline beside a map

The trip is laid out chronologically next to the route, so you can read a journey in order instead of decoding a cloud of pins.
